2025 Projects Requesting Funding
Project 1: White Creek Wood Replenishment Phase 3
Sponsor: Yakama Nation
Funds Requested: $500,170 standard
Project Description: The third and final phase of a comprehensive 9-mile restoration of White Creek, this project will involve treating the lowest 3 miles of White Creek with upwards of 300 loads of wood consisting of large and small diameter trees and rootwads. White is Creek is a tributary to the Mid-Klickitat, that empties where Glenwood Highway finally snakes West nearing the town of Glenwood. White Creek has some of the highest quality habitat in the Klickitat watershed, and consequently has one of the healthiest Mid-Columbia Steelhead populations.
Project 2: Schoolhouse Creek Riparian Revival
Sponsor: Yakama Nation
Funds Requested: $200,000 riparian
Project Description: This project involves the restoration of 1.5 acres/.25 miles of Schoolhouse Creek, which is an unnamed tributary to the White Salmon River on a series of private parcels near Fordyce Rd. This project will aim to restore habitat for Mid-Columbia Steelhead through revitalizing a functioning riparian ecosystem through revegetation, invasive weed and plant control, and installation of large woody debris.
Project 3: Lower White Salmon River Conservation Acquisition RM 3.3-5.6
Sponsor: Yakama Nation
Funds Requested: $1,000,000 riparian
Project Description: This project will seek to acquire the area of the White Salmon River within the former reservoir of Condit Dam, from where the dam began to Northwestern Park. Yakama Nation received funding in a previous project to acquire several miles below the former Dam site, and if funded this project would put into permanent conservation 5.6 miles/458 acres of the Lower White Salmon River, for both future restoration and recreational development.
Project 4: Pine Creek Fish Passage Design Phase 2
Sponsor: Eastern Klickitat Conservation District
Funds Requested: $200,000 standard
Project Description: This project will seek to build upon an initial design to restore access and natural conditions to the Pine Creek Watershed. Pine Creek meets the Columbia River 8 miles East of Roosevelt, WA and is currently inaccessible to anadromous fish, as the culverts in place that should facilitate flow are either blocked or significantly above the high-water mark, which has created a backwater pond in place of a natural stream. The long-term goal of this design is the construction of bridges in place of the current roadway for the BNSF and SR-14. With restored fish access, Pine Creek has the potential to be a significant contributor of anadromous fish in WRIA 31.
Project 5: Simcoe Mountains Spring Enhancement
Sponsor: Eastern Klickitat Conservation District
Funds Requested: $150,000 standard
Project Description: The goal of this project is the restoration of a 1.5 mile reach of Rock Creek at its headwaters in the Simcoe Mountains through a combination of grazing deterrence, installation of large wood and beaver dam analogs, and planting of native riparian vegetation. While slightly above the noted reach for anadromous fish, enhancing this headwater reach will greatly assist with the long-term development of downstream habitat and flow.
